What is "WadeMade"? |
During the Great Depression Ethel Wade owned and operated a confectionery shop in Clayton, New Mexico. Among her treats were her home made potato chips and caramel corn. Into each bag of these she added a small slip of paper printed with "WADE MADE, Clayton, New Mexico." I used to have a couple of these slips that I dug out of her basement from a vacation back there in the 60's. For some reason I carried one around in my wallet for years until it was just tatters. I can't find any more or I would scan it and show it here.

Her youngest son, my Dad, spent his career as an aircraft mechanic and continues to be quite prone to making things. Anything from craft projects to tools he makes may be marked with the "Wade Made" moniker. He is also known for making absolutely excellent pies but I have not seen one of them marked yet. Hmmm, an idea here?

![]() I, too, am prone to making things. After years of model airplanes in my youth I found my way into woodworking as a hobby. Several years ago when I was unemployed the lack of a business card seemed to indicate a lack of identity so I had a bunch printed up. Of course the most prominent typeface shouted "WADE MADE". In today's world of PCs and laser printers I make a new batch every time I need them. |
